Why do an engagement session?
Every couple chooses to do an engagement session for different reasons, but there are a few key benefits to getting together for 60-90 minutes and snapping a few photos…
We get to meet!
Well as we may hit it off in our initial conversations, there’s just no substitute for meeting in the flesh. It helps to get to know each other a little better, and to get used to a stranger photographing you. It can be daunting, I know!
You get honest, beautiful photos of yourselves
Whether you’re using them for save the date cards, putting them on display at your wedding or using them on your wedding website, engagement photos are a worth the effort. I find that clients often use them to print and hang in their homes, as they are a more sincere portrayal of their everyday selves.
What happens at an engagement session?
First, we choose a location. It can be anywhere you want, and I’m happy to share recommendations!
Next, we set a time to meet and determine a general path to take through our location. I never take clients on a pre-ordained course that focuses on landmarks, but rather we go for a walk looking for the best light and compositional situations.
While I am no stranger to employing light coaching and posing, I always put the emphasis on making you feel as comfortable as possible. When you two are able to be yourselves, the beautiful photos will make themselves!
Can we bring our pets? Our kids?
Absolutely! If you have pets, kids or both, I encourage you to bring them along but would also recommend bringing someone to help with them. I find that the presence of either(though we love them!) can be a distraction that makes it harder to get the photos we’re looking for.
We are super awkward in front of the camera!
Don’t worry, I’ve got you! I got married not too long ago and was put on the other side of the camera. I understand that it’s a strange feeling. But by now I’ve worked with dozens of couples and have never, not even once, come away with photos that make the couple look awkward.
It might be uncomfortable at first, but getting you to feel less awkward is my job. Because when you’re comfortable, the great photos will happen on their own.
